New Year’s Eve (December 31st)

New Year’s Day (January 1st)

  • 10th Annual New Year Plunge at Oceanic: Benefiting Communities in Schools of Cape Fear, Celebrate the New Year with a plunge at either 12pm or 12:30pm on the north side of the Oceanic Pier. Purchase your tickets now for the plunge and after party (also available to purchase separately)! After party includes craft beer, pizza, music, and fun for the whole family!

  • First Day Hike of Basin Trail: Hosted at the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area embrace the new year with some fresh air on this free to attend, at your own pace 2 mile walk. Wear sunscreen and bring a water bottle! From 2pm to 3pm!

  • New Year’s Day Shenanigans at Ponysaurus Brewing: Live music from local bands, half price burgers, and more festivities all day! Ponysaurus also offers many Non-Alcohol options for Dry January!

  • Comedy Roast of 2024 With Gruff Goat Comedy: From 3pm to 5pm at Waterline Brewing featuring jokes to kick off the new year, and food specials to accompany!

Thursday, January 2nd

  • Beginning Swing Dance Lessons for January: Starting tonight, and continuing every Thursday at the Hannah Block in the Community Arts Center Downtown! Workshop runs from 1pm to 4pm with the dance from 7:30pm to 10pm (beginners arrive for mini lesson 6:30pm to 7:30pm). Wanting to pick up a new hobby/skill for the new year? Get more info online!

  • Open Mic Night at Liv Buds and Bottles: Bring your own instrument for an open mic night from 6pm to 9pm with sign ups starting at 5:30pm! Drink and dinner specials!

  • Wilmington Area Meshtastic Meetup at Cape Fear Makers Guild: Meetup for those interested in off-grid, open messaging system! Connect with new friends to assemble solar rigs and share ideas at 7pm!

  • Generations Drum Circle at Hamlet Ave Access: Hosted by Scott Rigdon and Generations and Djembes at Carolina Beach (Hamlet Ave Access) bring a beach blanket to relax to the tunes and good vibes, or bring a makeshift instrument to pitch in! Come for the sunset, and stay for fireworks around 9pm!

Friday, January 3rd

  • Wilmington Run Club at Luna Caffe: The Wilmington Run Club is an inclusive, all levels welcome running group that offers different pace groups, and coffee discounts at a new Wilmington local shop each month! January’s location is Luna! Keep up with more info on Instagram!

  • Rock Against Cancer Benefit: Hosted by Professional Firefighters of Wilmington NC at Bowstring Burgers and Brewyard starting at 5pm featuring live music, supporting recently diagnosed Captain Travis Best.

  • American Sign Language Social at The Mall: From 12pm to 1:30pm in the Food Court at the Independence Mall. Interpreters, signers, students, and friends are all welcome!

  • Karaoke Night at Broomtail Pub and Arcade: From 8pm to 11pm featuring $5 drafts for the very first karaoke of the new year! Grab your friends and pack your best performance!

  • Tai Chi Class for Beginners by The Dance Element: No registration required for a beginner friendly class, perfect for good habits in the new year! Class runs from 9:30am to 10:25am. Only $12 for a one time drop in class, with lower prices when you purchase a package.

Saturday, January 4th

  • Goal Setting Workshop at Sun House Fitness: Want a little extra help defining and setting your goals for the new year? Join this FREE workshop starting at 10:30am to help get you started (goals don’t have to be related to fitness)!

  • Sound Bath Meditation: For only $35 starting at 1pm experience soothing sound frequencies and vibrations that help to relieve stress as you start the new year off strong. Come prepared for guided meditation and a relaxing journey!

  • Beginner Photographer Class by Wilmington Photographer Group: From 10am to 1pm, here’s another opportunity to kick off that new hobby you’re planning to pick up in 2025! Taught by David Ross on shutter speed, aperture, and ISO! Book now to save your spot!

  • Cat Adoption Event at Pet Supplies Plus: Every Saturday from 11am to 3pm at the Pet Supplies Plus in Porter’s Neck! If you’re looking for a new addition to the family, consider swinging by!

  • Flow to Flow, Yoga and Writing at Terra Sol Sanctuary: From 3pm to 4:30pm connect mind, body and spirit to tell your story! $20 per person for Yogis, Writers, and beginner friendly! This is the perfect opportunity to listen your body and begin defining your needs for 2025!

  • Vision Board Workshop by Salty Dog Yoga and Surf: Create your very own vision board, a visual representation of your goals for the new year, materials provided with $25 ticket! From 11am to 12:30pm.

Sunday, January 5th

  • Floating Lantern Ceremony at The Cameron Art Museum: An evening of remembrance and gratitude! Create your own floating lantern to be placed in the Reflection Pond, and enjoy live music, food, and drinks. From 3pm to 7pm, Lanterns cost $20 (purchased at arrival).

  • Ladies Clothing Swap at Salty Dog Yoga and Surf: Need a New Year (sustainable) refresh? Grab up to four items from your closet, to be redeemed into credit to purchase a donated piece! All donations must be in by noon, with the swap running from 12:30pm to 2:30pm!

  • January Plant-Based Brunch Potluck at South Front Premier Living: Bring your favorite Breakfast or Brunch item to share (if you have a coffee maker please bring it)! Connect with others in the community who are also committed to sustainability and lovers of plant-based eating! From 1pm to 3pm!

  • Elements and Ice Cream at Boombalati’s: For car enthusiasts and ice cream lovers alike, cruise over to Boombalati’s from 7pm to 9pm (arriving at 6:30pm for optimal parking) for Wilmington’s favorite ice cream and car show!

🎤 Flo Rida To Be at 2025 Wilmington Azalea Festival: Popular Hip-Hop artist Flo Rida has been announced to headline at the 2025 Azalea Festival with a show at the Live Oak Bank Pavilion! Tickets start at $55 and are on sale now! Mark your Calendars for the Azalea Festival running from April 2-6!

🍨 As Seen on Shark Tank, Czech-Style Dessert Shop Opening in Wilmington: Crispy Cones, a European styled dessert shop famous for soft-serve ice cream, will be opening their doors in Downtown Wilmington in 2025. This is their ninth location and first in North Carolina (around 40 more are set to open sometime next year)! Jeremy Carlston founded Crispy Cones in 2018 in Idaho after an inspirational trip to Czech Republic, and recently became famous after becoming a big hit on Shark Tank!

🐕 The Cargo District’s Ruff Draft Closes Doors: Earlier this month Ruff Draft, Wilmington’s Dog Bar, closed their doors for good. Under new ownership (Justin and Bekah Smith) and branding (The Rift), a bar with a “new concept” is in the works, and currently under wraps. Sam Steger (owner of Mess Hall and formerly Ruff Draft) has not commented on the reason for closing.
